Established in 2000, Whidbey Sun & Wind is one of the most experienced and established renewable energy companies in the Northwest.

Whidbey Sun & Wind is both a general contractor, license WHIDBSW946M1, and an electrical contractor, license WHIDBSW920MS. Renewable energy is our ONLY business.

We are located in Coupeville, Washington, on beautiful Central Whidbey Island, in northern Puget Sound. We have ample sunshine, as we are in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains. And, located at the intersection of Admiralty Inlet and the Juan de Fuca Strait, our area has a great wind resource.

Our office, in the middle of the Ebey's Landing National Historic Reserve, overlooks Crockett Prairie, Crockett Lake, Admiralty Bay, and, beyond, Mount Rainier.

Kelly
Founder Kelly Keilwitz is the managing member of Whidbey Sun & Wind, LLC. Kelly is a registered professional civil engineer with a background in geotechnical engineering. Kelly's training in renewable energy began in 1999, through Solar Energy International. He has completed the following courses through SEI: Photovoltaic Design & Installation, Advanced PV, Wind Power, Microhydro Power, Solar Hot Water, Build Your Own Wind Generator, and Solar Home Design. Kelly is certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) as a Certified Solar PV Installer.

Kelly and his family live next door to the Whidbey Sun & Wind office. His home is a model of sustainable remodeling and living techniques and renewable energy use. Kelly and his family enjoy skiing, hiking, biking, paddling & sailing and living in this beautiful, rural community as sustainably as is they can. Kelly is a member of the Mount Baker Ski Patrol, and the Island County Trails Council.

       Lori
Lori Christian is the Office Manager for WSW. She is thrilled to be helping bring renewable energy to Whidbey Island. First exposed to solar energy as a wee small child through the work of her great-uncle, D S Halacy (a man ahead of his time - Google him), she's always maintained a keen interest in sustainable living.

Lori and her husband live on the south end, overlooking Holmes Harbor. The endless remodel has actually ended and they are tracking production on their solar photovoltaic system. You might see them zipping around town on their electric scooters.

Lori is 'into fiber'. She knits, spins, and is learning to weave. Lori is also an avid genealogist, gardener, and loves cross county skiing. She is taking a full course-load online with WGU. Apparently she didn't have enough to do.

Chris
WSW is thrilled that we could lure Chris Carbonella away from the Washington DC area. Chris grew up helping in his family's HVAC business in New Jersey, where he learned about electricity, wiring, and energy efficiency. He began his renewable energy career with Chesapeake Solar in Jessup, MD, starting as a solar equipment installer and quickly becoming a project manager, supervising commercial and residential solar PV and hot water installations in VA, DE, and DC. At WSW, Chris is a system designer/project manager, splitting his time between the office and the field.

Chris' wife is a native Washingtonian so he's not entirely unfamiliar with this area. He says "I feel lucky to be working in such a beautiful area and doing something that has a strong future."

The rest of the gang
We are still waiting for bios and photos to be approved by the rest of the staff. Our electricians, Lance and Golda, work their magic with wiring. Our electrical trainees/installers, Brett and Byron, do the heavy lifting. Ben ties up the tangled ends in the office and lends a hand with installation. Michael, our summer intern, shows up every day with a smile and a can-do attitude, ready to handle whatever we throw at him.
