Off-grid pricing and specs are in some ways comparable to grid-tie systems, however off-grid systems must include an adequately sized battery bank to store usable electricity. Generally speaking, a battery bank and other necessary balance-of-system components used in an off-grid system design may add at least $8000 to the total system costs shown for grid-tie PV system pricing.

If more power is needed by a household, more solar panels and batteries will be need to be incorportated, thus increasing the total price of the system. Do note, incentives are available, including a 30% federal tax credit for purchasing and installing a PV system.
