Warranty, Rates & Policies

Warranty
WSW provides a one-year warranty on installation. Charges for service call, travel, and mileage will apply if the problem does not originate with WSW installation or components. For jobs more distant than one hour's travel from our office in Coupeville, labor is covered, but charges for travel time, mileage, and/or shipping may apply.
Equipment is warranted by the manufacturer. Labor time will be charged for WSW troubleshooting and replacement of components beyond our one-year warranty period.
Damage to systems by earthquake, fire, flood or other catastrophic occurence is specifically excluded from our warranty.
Renewable Energy System Design & Installation
The cost of a Site Evaluation and Consultation (SE&C) is $100. Travel time will also be billed for off-Island SE&C's. SE&C's usually takes an hour or two. We will assess the renewable energy potential of your site, discuss your expectations and budget, and give general recommendations. Should you decide to purchase a renewable energy system, the $100 fee will be credited toward purchase.
To proceed with the purchase of a renewable energy system, we will ask for an up-front detailed design fee of $400. In return for your design fee, we will prepare a system design, provide a system drawing, specify components, outline performance expectations, describe the scope of the work, and provide a cost estimate for an installed system. Our estimate will include all materials, labor, travel, permits, fees, and sales tax if applicable. Your final cost will not exceed this detailed estimate by more than 5% without your prior written consent. This design fee will be credited in full against the final bill.
Once you authorize the system installation, the payment schedule is as follows:
  • 60% of the estimated cost is due prior to ordering materials.
  • 20% of the estimated cost is due upon receipt of the major components and start of the installation.
  • 10% of the estimated amount is due upon substantial majority completion of each system.
  • The final amount is due upon system completion, with all approvals and contracts completed. The final two payments, at our discretion, may be combined.
Installation and service: $60/hour.
Travel Time and Mileage
Travel time is charged at $30/hr per technician. Travel mileage is charged at $.75/mile for a service truck.
Service, Troubleshooting & Repairs
In addition to the above rates for installation and travel, add $15/hour/technician for consultation and service on systems installed by others or for installation of equipment purchased by others. There is a two hour minimum charge for on-site service calls. For wind generator service, labor is charged at time-and-a-half above 20 feet.
If called out on a warranty call and the problem is found not to originate with WSW installation or components; minimum service call, travel, mileage, etc will be assessed. Removal and replacement of manufacturer warranted components is billed at our standard installation rates.
Consultation Services
We are available to assist with site planning, system design, integration, new-owner education, and other general consultation related to renewable energy. Our rate is $80/hour, billed in quarter-hour increments for all work directly related to your job. Consultation is generally not creditable toward purchase.
