PV 101 Solar Training - Solar Electric Design and Installation (Grid-Direct)

April 2 - 7, 2012

Instructors: Brad Burkhartzmeyer, Ian Woofenden. Tuition: $1195.00

Course Description: This course will provide an overview of the three basic PV system applications, primarily focusing on grid-direct systems. The goal of the course is to create a fundamental understanding of the core concepts necessary to work with all PV systems, including:  system components, site analysis, PV module criteria, mounting solutions, safety, and commissioning. The course will also cover the basics of sizing a residential grid-direct system, wire sizing, overcurrent protection, and grounding – all of which will be expanded upon in PV202.

Prerequisites: * Before participating in the PV101 in-person workshop, students are required to complete the self-paced PV 101 PREP online component (included in price of PV101, you will automatically be enrolled in PV PREP Online at the time you register for PV101).

ST 101 Solar Training - Solar Hot Water Design and Installation

April 9 - 13, 2012

Instructors: Chuck Marken, Ian Woofenden. Tuition: $895.00

in this workshop will learn the theory, design considerations and installation strategies necessary to install and maintain a solar domestic hot water system. Passive solar water heaters, drainback systems, antifreeze systems, and photovoltaic powered systems are discussed in depth, as well as an introduction to pool and space heating systems. The workshop will include some hands-on labs and tours of solar hot water systems.

This course is based on standards set by NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners).  The standards, referred to as the Objectives and Task Analysis for Solar Water and Pool Heating Systems Installation Contractor, can be accessed online. The 3 day training counts for 24 educational hours and the 5 day training counts for 40 educational hours towards the NABCEP Solar Thermal Installer Certification and is ISPQ (Institute for Sustainable Power Quality) accredited.
